You have to check out www.coach.com ! Not only do they have great shoes right now, but they have an amazing shoe sale happening!! I was drawn to their heels this spring because of their platforms and sturdy heels. The designs are sexy and most importantly comfortable. Since the heels are so solid, the weight of your foot doesn’t entirely go to the ball of your foot.
Many of their designs can be dressed up or dressed down. I must also mention that most of the shoes do not have an obvious “Coach” label on them (if one at all). I personally like to by products because I like the look….not because I want to be a walking billboard :) Go ahead and take a gander at the coach website….the only place the shoes are on sale!

I tried on these flip-flops at Nordstroms. It was the first time I had seen this brand. They were located near the fit-flops which I also love.
The OluKai’s are cute and casual, but actually have an arch support! So, if your podiatrist is always telling you not to wear flip-flops due to the lack of arch support……..I think you are in luck :)

Just a brief thought for the day……
If you are considering surgery, please make sure you get a second opinion, or even a third. One thing I have learned from having a bad experience with surgery, is that practically every podiatrist has a different opinion. When I was considering hammertoe surgery, I had two doctors act like it was no big deal. They said that shortening my toe would be a fine option. Of course hindsight is 20/20, but so many doctors I have gone to since have opposing thoughts (which are too late to do anything about now).
My case is not something everyone deals with, I know. However, I have never come across so many different opinions from doctors as I have in the field of podiatry!
Do what you can to prevent surgery. Many of the foot products I talk about in my blog can help preserve your foot alignment. Also, keep the muscles in your feet strong….talk to your doctor or physical therapist about what your problem areas are, and what exercises could benefit you.
Take care!

Having foot ailments has meant I’ve spent alot of time online trying to find products that can help me. I wanted to pass along some of the websites that have a large selection of foot aids. Some of my favorites are:
www.footsmart.com , www.myfootshop.com , and www.footdocshop.com . Even if your feet are in good condition, there are many products that will help keep them that way.
These sites may be helpful for my dancer friends looking for added comfort and foot protection. Don’t let your feet suffer if they don’t have to! ;)

So…..I am obsessed with some of the shoes that Coach has out now!. There are many styles with a platform on the inside and a sturdy heel. Check them out on coach.com….and look under “all shoes.” One of the styles I really love is called “Karolina”….I really like the python ones and there’s other colors in the same style as well. There are so many different styles I want!!!!! However, my wallet doesn’t quite agree with me. Honestly though, Coach’s shoes are reasonably priced compared to other designers’ shoes that aren’t as practical. Take a look at them….I bet you’ll be as excited as I am :)

My favorite beachy flip flops……
So……I love these flip flops!! They are very casual (aka beachy)……and incredibly comfortable.
The style I have is called the ‘The Dunas WM’
by Rider. The sole is made of a thin layer of injection molded “Flexpand” and topped with a cushioned waffle-textured insole.
I bought mine at “The Track Shack” in Orlando, FL. However, you can find them online. They come in a few different colors too.
As far as fit… they run true to your street shoe size. They are quite reasonably priced……. so, grab a pair to throw on for the spring/summer.

pimp your shoes

Okay ladies…it’s time to take matters into our own hands. Yes, yes some people are blessed with pain-free feet. As for the rest of us, we want to look sassy and be comfy too! ;)
As I have mentioned before, when it comes to high heels, look for pairs with hidden platforms inside. A platform of at least 1 inch decreases the angle of your foot in the shoe.
Also, just as we have our clothes altered….visit a great shoe repair!! They can add foam padding to the inner soles of your high heels. This goes for other types of shoes too. The cost is usually minimal and lasts longer than a Dr Scholl’s. (not knocking their products though :) )
A great shoe repair in NYC is T.O. Dey. They can sometimes get pricey, but are fantastic!! They work with many celebrities, Broadway performers, etc.. In fact they can MAKE you a pair of shoes if you can afford it. They have improved my dance shoes greatly!
Another NYC shoe repair that I have read about is called Leather Spa. I have not been there, but it looks and sounds great!
If shoes aren’t made to the comfort level we desire, then we need to adjust them to meet our standards. Also, I am soooo thrilled that designers are making more shoes with platforms big and small! High end designers and moderately priced lines are getting on board with this design.   For example, Christian Louboutin, Sergio Rossi, Cole Hann, INC, Guess, Bebe, Zara and many more. Long live the platform! Sexy AND comfortable…what a concept!!! :) Don’t settle for less….pimp your shoes and unite comfort with fashion !

Happy Feet socks

I love my “Happy Feet” socks! I saw them in SkyMall magazine, but I purchased them off of amazon.com. These socks are the same concept as the ‘yoga toes’. They are meant to stretch your toes and correct their alignment. What is so great about these socks is that you can wear them while you are sleeping! Typically, I can’t wear them through the entire night, but they are comfy socks none the less. It’s like throwing on your retainer at night to keep your teeth straight! haha Or if you prefer, you can wear them at night while you unwind. These are an especially great product for women who wear heels all day.
Keep your feet happy and healthy!

My friend and I recently went shopping to look for a classic black pump. Preferably one that could work for both work and play…..and of course…..be comfortable!! At Nordstrom’s, Stuart Weitzman had a nice black patent leather pump with a small platform. The heel was high, but not over the top. They look very classy and the inside of the shoe even has some built in padding!
INC has a great pair of black patent leather pumps at Macy’s. They have a wider heel and a great toe box shape. They are sexy but practical for many occasions. These were probably our favorite pumps we came across.
Looking at top designer’s shoes are fun, but ultimately you have to buy what is comfortable to your foot. I am finding that sometimes designer shoes are more comfortable, and other times they are no more luxurious than a cheap shoe.
I definitely recommend getting a classic pump that has a rounder toe box….steer clear of the extremely pointy toe boxes. I have seen many styles out there that don’t cause you to have elf feet……yet still have a feminine toe shape Save yourself from bunions!

Recently, I found the “Insolia” inserts on footsmart.com.  These inserts help to shift weight off of the ball of the foot.   They seem to be most effective in shoes with a heel height from 1 1/2 inches to about 3 inches.  I personally need some cushion under the ball of my foot no matter what.  However, I do find that this insert is helpful.  The weight shift is not extreme, but enough to have a positive effect.  This insert is meant to adhere to the inside of your shoe in order to stay in place.
